Over the course of history, South American Andean flutes have been widely recognized and have captivated listeners around the world. Their sound has accompanied the cultures of the indigenous peoples of the Andean region for centuries. A special place among them is occupied by the kena, a traditional wind instrument that has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Andean music and has a rich history and cultural significance. Kena serves as the embodiment of cultural identity and a way to preserve the traditions of the Andean peoples, while captivating listeners with its magical melodies and emotional depth.
In this series of recordings, we are proud to introduce Peruvian maestro Kike Pinto. As a child, he moved from the Andes to Lima, and then devoted his life to traveling through the Andes and Amazonia, studying the origins of the local musical tradition – instruments, vocal techniques and sounds – in order to create his own music and songs based on them. His collection includes one of the largest collections of authentic flutes and instruments in the region, and he himself became a true ambassador of indigenous music of Peru and the Andes.
