Run the included “R2R_Kill_Waves_Background_Process.cmd”.
Make sure COSMOS.exe, WavesLocalServer.exe, WavesPluginServer.exe are not running.
Uninstall the previous release.
Uninstall Waves Central.
Clean the paths:
• Your VST2, VST3, AAX plugins directory
• C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\
• %PROGRAMFILES%\Waves Central\
• %PROGRAMDATA%\Waves Audio\
• %APPDATA%\COSMOS\
• %APPDATA%\Waves Audio\
• %LOCALAPPDATA%\Waves Audio\
• %PUBLIC%\Waves Audio\
=> If you think you have no experience, find “WaveShell*” on your C drive, then delete everything.
=> We always see people having issues with old wrappers that should be removed before doing this.
Clean registry:
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Waves\
Install Runtime
If you use SoundGrid, install/update SoundGrid drivers.
Google “Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable”, download from Microsoft and install/update:
Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022 x64
Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (used by recent web plugins)
Install Waves
Unzip our installer, run and install.
Scan or rescan plugins from your DAW.
If you updated, a full rescan is recommended.
If you use sample-based instruments, find the instruments path from the app launcher or GUI.

Restarting Waves background servers
This is useful when a background process is doing something wrong.
When the background servers are not working correctly, the following problem occurs:
• Scanning for plugins fails (WaveShells returns 0 plugins)
• Preset browser does not work
• COSMOS (also in CR8 Sampler browser) does not start or exits without a license error
• Some plugins like KeyDetector, Waves Gemstones cause license error
Run the included “R2R_Kill_Waves_Background_Process.cmd”.
Run these EXE files manually.
• “%PROGRAMDATA%\Waves Audio\WavesLocalServer\WavesLocalServer.bundle\Contents\Win64\WavesLocalServer.exe”
• “%PROGRAMDATA%\Waves Audio\WavesPluginServer\WavesPluginServerV15.1.bundle\Contents\Win64\WavesPluginServer.exe”
After that, rescan the plugin.
