In 2012, we introduced the D2O microphone preamp.
With its unique combination of solid-state electronics and miniature vacuum tubes, the D2O offered a versatile sonic palette that musicians and engineers loved.
Parts availability and manufacturing costs became an issue, so we discontinued the D2O after ten years.
Today, our D2O preamp is back as an audio plugin. We used neural networks and artificial intelligence to capture the soul and nuances of the D2O, a departure from traditional circuit modeling. Our approach delivers a rich sound, complemented by modern features like sloped EQ, high-pass filter (HPF), and mix control – enhancements that the original hardware could not offer.
What sets this plugin apart is its ability to transcend extremes of sound – from soft warmth to aggressive richness – making it a versatile tool for enhancing a wide range of sources, including vocals, guitars, drums, and even the mix bus. Running in real time on the processor, this plug-in redefines the digital audio landscape, giving producers and engineers the ability to infuse their projects with the legendary warmth of D2O without hardware limitations.
For a warm sound, use lower gain settings. For more saturation, simply raise the gain knob. If the saturation becomes too intense, you can tone it down with the mix knob. To further increase the saturation of D2O, raise the input knob and lower the output knob. Fine-tune the signal with the high-pass filter and sloped EQ. For example, most electric guitars benefit from a high-pass filter.
