In the summer of 1986, the famous American synthesizer manufacturer released a machine with a wonderful new method of sound construction, this machine was Sequential Prophet VS, and the method was vector synthesis. An innovative instrument in its day and still in demand to this day, the Prophet VS was doomed to failure, and its failure marked the end of Sequential’s outstanding legacy. Needless to say, Prophet VS’ tonal range and absolute flexibility were great.
The VS digital vector synthesis engine was placed in front of an all-analog signal path with the well-known Curtis amplifiers and filters, giving it incredible warmth and error-free character, the palette of sounds that were possible with its help was enormous. Not only did it open up a world of previously unseen sounds, but it could exactly imitate both analog classics and their modern digital counterparts.
Another premiere, The Prophet VS placed a strong emphasis on expressive control of stereo sound, providing greater depth and dimension, which largely led to it capturing the imagination of a generation of film composers, including the prominent Vangelis and John Carpenter.
