The dream synth seemed to exist: a wavetable synth with truly high-quality sound, a visual and creative workflow-oriented interface to make creating and modifying sounds fun rather than tedious, and the ability to “dive deep” if desired – to create/import/edit/transform wavetables and manipulate them while playing in real time.
Serum includes all the filter types found in LFOTool, plus some brand new ones. Flangers, phasers, and comb filters, each of which can track the musical note you play. Dual filter types let you control or switch between filter types. Get creative with atypical filter processes, like downsampling, or with unique filter types never seen before, like the dirty-sounding LPF.
Serum lets you stack a single oscillator to use up to 16 voices. Each of the waveform oscillators has a range of advanced unison options. Stack settings let you layer notes (like octaves) to get a fuller sound when you play a single note. Set all the voices in unison to a unique waveform at once with the Unison WT Pos setting, or set them all up differently with the Unison Warp control. A variety of unison settings for each oscillator lets you get the blooming or swarming sound of the stack just the way you want.
